The Analysis of Research about Effect of Aromatherapy on Stress in Nursing

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study was performed to analyze the trend of effect of aromatherapy on stress research in nursing of Korea.
Method: Of studies published in nursing area between 2000 and 2008. The 22 articles were analyzed according to published year and journal, type of research and study design, subject, and outcome variables of interventions.
Result: Prevailing research designs were experimental research (nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design). Prevailing characteristics of subjects were healthy people. The most frequently performed intervention were aroma massage. The most frequently used outcome variables were subjective stress. The effect of aromatherapy on stress were inconclusive.
Conclusion: The finding suggest that a robust research design in aromatherapy on stress research is needed to accumulate strong scientific evidence and to adopt nursing intervention from aromatherapy on stress modalities. Meta-analysis of research should be done to analyze and integrate the results of various studies.
